Have you ever read a book and thought, "Wow, I wish I'd written that!"? For me, Aru Shah and the End of Time is one of those books. It has everything I like: humor, action, great characters and, of course, awesome mythology! But this is not a book I could have written. I just don't have the expertise or the insider's knowledge to tackle the huge incredible world of Hindu mythology, much less make it so fun and reader-friendly.Fortunately for all of us, Roshani Chokshi does.If you are not familia [...]
Oh, I loved this. Middle grade books are usually hit or miss with me, but this one was such a fun adventure.Aru lives with her mother above the Museum of Ancient Indian Art and Culture. One day when she lights the Lamp of Bharata, the Sleeper is freed and everyone around her is frozen in time. Only one of the 5 Pandava brothers (from the Mahabharata) could light the lamp, so Aru's new pigeon guardian informs her she is a child of the gods and must now go on a quest to save the world. Her Pandava [...]

Esse livro é um lacre e eu fico feliz de ter lido com tanta antecedência ao lançamento, que só vai ser em 2018.
" Percy Jackson meetsSailor Moon with Indian mythology"???Ok!Roshani wants my soul now!You have me with Sailor Moon!
This book! This book is so inspiring and beautiful! Every page was like reading a dream. I wish I could have had this book when I was in middle school, and it brings me to tears of happiness when I think of young girls getting to read it now. I absolutely loved this book!
Incarnation of PandavasI didn't know I was waiting for this kinda book until I read the summary. I'm extremely excited for this book but I know I shouldn't butAlso bonus to Aru because of spider-man PJs👍
If this first book is any indication, we have a lot to celebrate with this new series. I am so excited for this Rick Riordan imprint and new mythology stories from other cultures.
Wow. Just wow. This book has taken my appreciation of middle grade to a whole new level. Everything about this story was SO much fun to read. I loved the sense of adventure, Aru’s imagination, the role of mythology EVERYTHING. The writing had so much humor that kept the whole story light-hearted even when the characters faced imminent danger and were on the brink of disaster. And the CHARACTERS. So complex and realistic and perfect and I just loved getting to know them. Where this book really [...]
YASS 27 MARCH 2018 I WANT
Sailor Moon? Indian mythology? Roshani Chokshi? take my library card/money
This first book from Rick Riordan's new imprint is phenomenal and a must-purchase for any Percy Jackson fans. Aru Shah is something of a loner. Her active imagination often leads to misunderstandings between her and her classmates, but she's desperate for friends, especially since her mother is away a lot of the time on business. So when three of her classmates show up at the Indian culture museum connected to Aru's home, she does something she hopes will impress them and earn her some social st [...]
FSDSADFKENRVJFBJSDHBVJHBFDJ, is all I have to say about this book.Let's start of with the fact that Aru is also my nickname, so when I found this book, I was way too excited about it. Though her full name is not the same as mine (though it would be supercool if it would have been) I was still obnoxiously excited. Now onto the book, I'm from India, so I knew most of the gods and creatures, but there were some I didn't know about and that was a great aspect of it. The story was amazing and lived up [...]
I received this ARC at a Book Festival so all thoughts and words to come are completely my own and are not solicited in any way.If i had had more time that first day I was reading this, i would have finished it in one sitting. That is how good this story is. Aru Shah is being sold as Sailor Moon meets wait Sailor Moon. Sold gimme the book. Okay as i was saying Aru Shah and the whole Pandava series is being sold as Sailor Moon meets Indian Mythology. And it did not disappoint. There is serious gi [...]
Thank you to Disney Books for providing me with an early copy!My full spoiler free review will be posted closer to publication date. On a small note, I very much enjoyed this first installment of Rosh's new middle grade series! Perfect, as usual.
My favourite character in this book is a house. Well, a palace. With strong feelings.
I was lucky enough to snag an ARC of this book from my agent and am SO VERY THRILLED ABOUT IT because Roshani Chokshi's MG debut is a masterful marriage of history, mythology, adventure, and the literary artistry of pure imagination. The main character, Aru Shah, has many flaws, but is just as hilarious as the author herself. The perfect heroine to lead the reader on an epic, magical adventure. If you enjoy gods and goddesses, darkness, evildoers, Hindu mythology, demons, death, ethereal otherwo [...]
Aru Shah is a seventh grader who lives in the Museum of Indian Art and Culture in Atlanta. Her mother is often gone on archaeological trips which leaves Aru lonely and prone to making up stories when she talks about her life to other students at the Augustus Day school. They go off on exotic vacations; she stays home waiting for some attention from her traveling mother. She uses all sorts of lies to make her feel better about herself. One day, when some kids from her school who have been bullying [...]

Review:Protagonist: Aru Shah is a liar. To fit in at school she will stretch and manipulate the truth, but when her lies catch up with her, in order to save face with a few of her classmates, she lights a cursed lamp in her mother's museum and unwittingly unleashes the Sleeper, a demon hell-bent on awakening Shiva, the God of Destruction. After the dust settles Aru learns that she is the reincarnation of one of the legendary Pandava brothers and in order to save the world from destruction she mu [...]
ARC provided by the publisherAru lives with her mother in an apartment attached to the Museum of Ancient Indian Art and Culture in Georgia, and her mother travels frequently for her work, leaving Aru with a babysitter. The children at Aru's school are much more well off than she is, and Aru has taken to lying about her life. When three children from her school show up at the museum (while Aru is still in her pajamas, no less), she feels a need to show off and lights the Diya of Bharata when she [...]
Very much Rick Riordan style. This has a great strong and realistic female heroine with a sense of humor and her sidekick, strong in her own way. I really like this one.
Full review to come closer to publication but y'all need to read this.
I received this advanced reader copy at NCTE and am so excited to share this book with my students. It is a fun adventure for a pair of middle-school heroines as they navigate a landscape from Hindu mythology. It is guaranteed to be a hit with Rick Riordan fans.
*Disclaimer: I was given an ARC of this book by the publisher for my honest review. My feelings and views are my own*I really loved this book! Full review to come closer to the review date but if you loved Percy Jackson or any of Roshani's other books you'll love this book. I'd also say for those who didn't like her other books you should try this book. Seriously, just read it!
I was able to get an ARC of Aru Shah thanks to Netgalley and I'm not sure I've ever been more excited to get an ARC before in my life! I have been looking forward to reading this book since it was first announced that Rick Riordan was going to be starting his own publishing imprint and was going to be releasing a novel by Roshani Chokshi. Let me tell you, this book definitely did not disappoint! Roshani Chokshi is an absolutely amazing writer. Her book, The Star-Touched Queen, was one of the mos [...]
4.5 stars. Thank you to Netgalley and Disney Books for providing me with a digital ARC of this release in exchange for an honest review.Aru Shah is an Indian girl who lives with her mother in the Museum of Ancient Indian Art and Culture. When she lights the Lamp of Bharata to impress some popular classmates she releases the Sleeper, cursed to live there until set free. Now she has until the new moon to stop the Sleeper before he arrives in the Kingdom of Death to awaken Lord Shiva, God of Destru [...]
Fans of Rick Riordan's books and their take on mythology will be delighted to learn that he now has an imprint that shares the works of other authors. Roshani Chokshi has taken the complex tales of Indian mythology and created a new series. This first book introduces readers to Aru Shah, whose mother runs a museum in Atlanta. When Aru lights a cursed lamp, she sets off events that could mean the end of time. And what do the gods of India give her to help prevent this? A pigeon. Yup, you read tha [...]
Aru Shah is my new favorite heroine- and she INSISTS on using the feminine! Roshania Chokshi has written such an engaging heroic epic in the tradition of Percy Jackson and Joseph Campbell. Aru, from the start, feels like a real 7th grade girl who is just trying to get by pretending everything is perfect in her life, just like so many other middle school girls. Thankfully we find out quickly that her life is so much more interesting than she ever thought it could be. With her mythic advisor Boo a [...]
Aru is a seventh grader that lives in the Indian Art Museum with her mother. Aru is always hearing about all the statues that are in the museum when her mom gives the tours. Her mom is gone a lot with the museum on archaeological trips. Aru misses her mom being there for her when she is gone so she makes up lies about everything and tells her classmates. One day these classmates, which have been bullying Aru, come to the museum and try to bust her in her lies. When they start questioning Aru abo [...]
